Transpacific Technologies Wins the LED Lighting Project at JPL |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
May 3, 2011
Transpacific Technologies was awarded the LED Lighting Project by EMCOR Government Services to implement LED lighting technology at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The goal of this project was to reduce JPL’s energy cost and optimize its energy usage. The project consisted of two parts: Retrofitting 163 HPS streetlight fixtures with LED mogul base lamps, and retrofit two parking garages, which utilize fluorescent T8s, with 85 LED T8 lamps. The award was the result of the continuous professional work performed by Transpacific’s team since 2009. Transpacific’s team provided the following services:
- Conducted market research to locate the most suitable LED streetlight.
-Performed cost analysis and provided the return on investment (ROI) based on 163 LED streetlight bulbs and 85 LED T8s.
-Provided LED lamp samples for testing over a period of two years at different locations in JPL.
LED lamps are more durable, cost effective and environmentally friendly in comparison to the previous HPS lamps and fluorescent T8s. The wattage of the HPS fixtures ranged between 70W-150W, they were replaced with 28W LED lamps. The wattage of the fluorescent T8s ranged between 32W-59W, they were replaced with 18W LED T8s.
Transpacific Technologies subcontracted the installation portion of the project to Western Allied Electric, which performed an excellent job and completed installation in a timely manner.
Transpacific’s team is proud to announce that the LED Lighting Project was completed successfully, which marked a major milestone in Transpacific’s business endeavor to become a leader in providing our customers with the highest quality engineering services and to champion green energy initiatives. |

First Installation of LED Lighting in JPL |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
In an effort to improve energy consumption, lower energy costs, and to raise environmental awareness, TransPacific Technologies, Inc. has teamed with EMCOR to implement the
LED lighting technology throughout the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) campus. An
LED streetlight prototype was provided by TransPacific and was installed in JPL,
making it the first such installation in the campus. The LED streetlight is a 36-watt
lamp (which replaces a 75-watt conventional lamp) and is more durable, cost effective
and environmentally friendly.
TransPacific’s team has been cooperating with EMCOR since early summer of 2009 to
explore the most modern technologies and energy solutions to reduce JPL’s energy
cost and optimize its energy usage. TransPacific’s staff presented the LED lighting
technology to EMCOR and highlighted its cost benefits and environmental advantages.
The extremely long life of LED’s makes them more economical to operate over their
span of operation, and they provide a more pleasant spectrum of light than conventional
lamps do.
TransPacific provided EMCOR with a 36-watt LED streetlight prototype and a 15-watt
LED T8 prototype (which will replace the fluorescent T8s inside JPL’s offices).
At the current stage, these samples are being tested in different locations throughout
JPL. The next stage will consist of converting the current fluorescent T8s in one
of JPL’s buildings into LED based T8s.
